Curriculum
Our curriculum is based on the Wee Learn Curriculum published by LifeWay and includes Bible stories and thoughts appropriate to preschoolers' level of understanding.
The Wee Learn Curriculum provides activities that expose children to the six areas of development listed in the Florida School Readiness Performance Standards and also helps to lay the foundation for spiritual growth. It is one of the eight recently approved curriculums for School Readiness Providers. Each day the teachers plan a Group Time. Reading aloud to children is such an important activity: it helps create a life-long love of books and gives them a good foundation for learning. Each teacher also plans a variety of art projects and creative art experiences.
We want to encourage creativity and self-expression by providing developmentally appropriate activities that strengthen fine motor skills and perceptual skills. The process is even more important than those very special products that each child brings home. We use positive guidance that encourages problem solving. Learning to solve problems is another important part of our curriculum; problem solving teaches self-discipline and communication skills.
The purpose of our discipline policy is to ensure the safety and respectful treatment of people and property and to encourage self-discipline. Children need guidance in learning to protect themselves and others from physical harm and hurt feelings. We are helping children grow and that is part of the process.
Play is children's work. We plan children's play to prepare each child for entering elementary school and to help children have a positive self-image and learn conflict resolution skills.
